Build the future you want to live in.

I know these times aren't the easiest for all of us, but I am an optimist - I see the glass as refillable instead of half-full or half-empty. To brighten up your days, I publish the Regenerate Your World newsletter coming to your inbox on a bi-weekly basis.

Let's Get Empowered!

The Power of Well-being

My everyday mantra

Photo: Sunrise over Lake Superior. I took this photo a few weeks ago after standing in awe. I soaked in the morning rays and listened to the waves crash on the beach. Appreciating nature is one way I maintain my well-being.

Dear Empowered Reader,

When is the last time someone asked you what you needed?

If it has been a while you are in luck because I am asking you, what do you need? Pause for a moment. Take a deep breath. Relax your shoulders. Loosen your jaw. And let the answer come to you.

Do you need to rest—really rest, not just pause?

I have found I tend to pause but I don't really rest very often. A pause, or a break, according to Scott D Clary, "is a short rest period between two tasks or during the same task. Rest is a period of time in which you cease from action, motion, work, or performance of any kind.".

Perhaps you've been pushing yourself tirelessly, and your mind and body are craving a moment of rest. Give yourself permission to step away from the demands of everyday life and embrace rejuvenation. Whether it's a walk along the beach, a cozy cabin retreat, or simply a quiet afternoon spent in nature, prioritize self-care and grant yourself the rest you deserve.

Or maybe you find yourself yearning for healing. Life's challenges can take a toll on our emotional well-being, and it's important to address those wounds with compassion and care. Seek out the support and resources you need to embark on a healing journey. It could be therapy, journaling, practicing mindfulness, or connecting with a supportive community that understands and uplifts you. Remember, healing is a process, and by prioritizing your own well-being, you can pave the way for personal growth and resilience. I have found lately I have been in a cycle of healing. I have to remind myself it is not a linear process but instead healing ebbs and flows.

Love and support are powerful forces that can fuel our lives with positivity and fulfillment.

Take a moment to reflect on the relationships in your life. Are you receiving the love and support you need? If not, it's time to foster those connections or seek new ones. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you, and reciprocate that love and support in return. Together, we can create a web of connections that nourish and empower us. Part of my healing has been ending relationships that do not support my well-being. I can appreciate what the relationship brought into my life and recognize that I can release my attachment to the relationship as it has served its purpose.

Next, do you need a little play in your life?

Think about embracing creativity and play. In our fast-paced and often stressful lives, it's essential to make room for creativity and play. Engaging in creative pursuits not only provides a refreshing break but also allows us to tap into our innate curiosity and imagination. Whether it's painting, writing, dancing, playing an instrument, or exploring a new hobby, carving out time for creative expression can bring joy, relaxation, and a sense of fulfillment. So, give yourself permission to play and create without judgment or expectation, and let your inner artist thrive. My favorite way to play is with my nieces and nephews, their boundless energy and creativity really inspire me and help me to appreciate the small things in life.

Lastly, do you need to overhaul or make a few edits to your daily nutrition? In our busy routines, it's common to rush through meals or mindlessly eat while multitasking. However, mindful eating is a practice that can nourish both our bodies and minds. Take a moment to slow down and savor your meals. Engage your senses by noticing the colors, aromas, and textures of the food. Chew slowly and pay attention to the flavors and sensations in each bite. By bringing awareness to our eating habits, we can foster a healthier relationship with food, improve digestion, and cultivate gratitude for the nourishment our bodies receive. I tend to eat at my desk. This month I am going to make it a goal of mine to eat lunch away from my desk.

My challenge for you today is to look a little deeper inside. Don't move through the world on autopilot. Put on your oxygen mask first.

Remember, taking care of ourselves is not a luxury but a necessity. So, prioritize rest, healing, nurturing relationships, creativity, and mindful habits, and let these practices guide you toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Now is the time to ask yourself: What do you need? And what would it look and feel like if you got what you needed?

Take this opportunity to write about one or more of the ideas you have about taking care of yourself.

Share your thoughts, dreams, and aspirations with me. I am here to listen, support, and cheer you on.

My Personal Quest by Patricia A Fleming

For most of my life, I've been on a quest
To discover just who I might be,
Earnestly searching, day after day,
So desperate to recognize me.

I've felt moments of utter fulfillment
And moments I couldn't go on,
But I knew for the sake of my heart and my soul,
To succeed, I would have to be strong.

But the people around me seemed so lost themselves
That I feared I might be on my own.
But then there'd be someone who would reach out and help
And remind me I wasn't alone.

I've wanted so much to be happy,
To know what it was to feel peace,
And I thought if I finally felt sure of myself,
Then the pain and the struggles would cease.

But I've learned that this journey is endless;
The discoveries are fresh every day,
And no matter how much I might know of myself,
They'll be times I will still lose my way.

And as I've grown older, I truly believe
I may never know all I can be.
But the answers are not waiting out in the world
But have always laid right inside me.

We're all on this quest to discover ourselves,
Together but through our own ways,
Overcoming whatever might get in our paths,
So we can feel better someday.

But always remember not to stray far
From what matters and what's really true.
In this life you don't have to be perfect.
In the end, you just have to be you.

The Power of Mantras

My everyday mantra

Dear Empower Possible Community,

A few weeks ago, I shared a blog post about coping strategies during difficult times (check it out here). Today, I want to dive deeper into one of my favorite tools for coping—mantras. Inspired by Gretchen Rubin, I found that mantras can be particularly helpful in managing anxiety over a challenging project.

But before we delve into that, let's take a moment to commemorate an important day.

Today, we join in commemorating Juneteenth, which marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It is a celebration of resilience, strength, and the triumph of a community. Juneteenth reminds us of the significance of freedom, equality, and justice for all. Let us honor this milestone in history and continue our collective work toward a more inclusive and equitable society.
A step towards justice is peace and vice versa. Peace of mind is a great place to start—mantras for example can help manage project-related anxiety.

Please note there are many different types of mantras. When I am using the term mantra I am referring to a statement I utilize to help calm my mind and redirect my focus.

Here are a few mantras that can help shift our mindset and navigate the challenges we may encounter: Thanks to Gretchen Rubin for the inspiration.

First Mantra:

"There are many ways for a [project] to succeed."

Success isn't solely defined by one outcome. It can manifest in various forms, such as building connections, helping others, leading to future opportunities, or connecting to another project.

🌟 Embrace the idea that success has multiple metrics.🌟

What does success look like to you?

What matters to you?

Second Mantra:

"A strong voice repels as well as attracts."

When you have a strong voice or express your true self, it's natural that not everyone will resonate with it.

As Gretchen notes, "Remember the state slogan for Nebraska: "Honestly, it's not for everybody." Embrace the fact that not everyone will appreciate or agree with your perspective, and that's perfectly okay.".

In what ways do you weaken your voice?

Third Mantra:

"Don't try to fake it and be someone or something you aren't."

While the phrase "fake it till you make it" is often used, I believe in acknowledging our feelings and being authentic. Recognize that it's okay to experience stress or uncertainty, and do your best while staying true to yourself.
"Remember, this is what you wanted." Remind yourself that pursuing your goals and dreams may come with stress and challenges. Embrace the duality of success and acknowledge that hard work doesn't guarantee a stress-free journey. Practice gratitude for what you have while persevering toward your aspirations.

How can you practice gratitude through out the day?

Fourth Mantra:

"You have more than one dimension to you." You are more than your job, your family role, or your appearance. Your decisions and how you spend your time reflect what you value. While we may not always have complete control over our time, when choices present themselves, consider if they align with your core values.

A mantra that truly resonates with you can be a powerful tool in overcoming challenges.

Do you utilize mantras in your life? If so, how?

If not, give it a try for a few days and see how you feel. You can choose one from the list above or create your own!

Additionally, don't forget to lean into your strengths when facing obstacles. If you're unsure about your strengths or how to leverage them, I invite you to join me for the upcoming Building Our Strengths Workshop hosted by the ALA (American Leadership Association). This virtual interactive workshop will help you identify your personal strengths, reflect on their application, and understand team strengths. The goal of this course is to help YOU, so attending these sessions ready to bring up what you need is important!

Coping During Difficult Times

Team Alicia Celebration Dinner

Hello, Regenerate Your World Readers!

The past few months (or years...) have been challenging for many of us, and while the specific details may differ, the effects of these events are something we can all relate to.

That's why I want to share my coping strategies and invite you to join me on a transformative journey of growth and healing through the "Transitions" course I am in the process of developing.

🌟 Discover Effective Coping Strategies. Review the strategies below and think about which one you would like to try. If one strategy doesn't work for you, try another one.

1️⃣ Embrace Nature's Healing Power: Step outside, even if just for 10 minutes, and connect with the natural world around you. Witness the transformative effect of fresh air and sunshine on your well-being.

2️⃣ Find Solace in Fiction: Escape into the enchanting world of fiction as you snuggle under a cozy blanket in your favorite rocking chair. Immerse yourself in captivating stories that transport you to new realms and offer solace.

3️⃣ Cherish Laughter and Connection: Surround yourself with friends who bring joy and laughter to your life. Share moments of levity, create memories and strengthen your support network.

4️⃣ Harness the Power of Mantras: Explore the transformative impact of positive affirmations. In a separate newsletter, we'll delve deeper into this powerful tool that can uplift your spirits and foster resilience. Stay tuned!

5️⃣ Nourish Your Body and Soul: Treat yourself to a delicious, nourishing meal that fuels not just your body but also your spirit. Discover the therapeutic value of savoring good food.

6️⃣ Sip Warm Comfort: Find solace in a steaming cup of tea, allowing its soothing warmth to calm your mind and restore your inner balance.

7️⃣ Embrace the Strength of Family: Surround yourself with loved ones, cherishing their presence and finding comfort in the bonds that sustain us during difficult times.

8️⃣ Witness the Beauty of the Universe: Watch the sunrise or sunset, marveling at the wonders of nature that remind us of the constant ebb and flow of life's transitions.

9️⃣ Cultivate Gratitude: Engage in the practice of gratitude journaling, where you can reflect on the blessings and moments of joy that have graced your life, fostering a positive mindset.

🔟 Rediscover Life's Adventures: Revisit memories of past travels, relishing the experiences that have shaped you and embracing the imperfections that make your story beautiful.

Sometimes the most difficult part isn't naming your coping strategies but instead actually implementing them into your daily life. This is where your fire plan comes in. ðŸ”¥

For example, let's consider how I incorporate these strategies into my daily life.

As part of my fire plan, I will provide two examples from the list above. If you want to know more email me!

1️⃣ Embrace Nature's Healing Power: I understand the importance of connecting with nature to enhance well-being. I incorporate this strategy into my daily routine. During lunch breaks or whenever I need a mental break, I step outside for at least 10 minutes. I walk around the block or simply look out at the trees from my deck, and take in the natural surroundings. I breathe in the fresh air, feel the warmth of the sun on my skin, and observe the beauty of the natural world around me. This brief connection with nature helps me recharge, reduce stress, and gain perspective.

2️⃣ Find Solace in Fiction: I recognize the power of reading fiction books to provide a mental escape and rejuvenation. In the evenings or on weekends, I carve out time specifically for fiction reading. I created a cozy corner in their home with a comfortable chair, a soft blanket, and my favorite books. I allow my mind to wander and be transported to different worlds. This dedicated time for fiction reading serves as a much-needed break from work-related stress and responsibilities, providing solace, relaxation, and a valuable source of inspiration.

What's your fire plan?

What steps can you take today to embark on this journey of healing and growth?

Share your experiences and let's support each other on this path to long-term well-being.

Laughter & Poetry

By Hempstone

In a world full of chaos and strife,
I often turn to humor just to survive.
To jest and laugh at life's absurdity,
Keeps my heart light with positivity.

But sometimes, even laughter falls short,
When life's challenges hit me with full force.
In those moments, I turn to my pen,
To write poetry that soothes my heart again.

Building a Lattice vs. Climbing the Ladder
