Take A Hike!

My husband, Chuck and I, with Mount St. Helens in the background

Greetings Dear Reader,

Welcome to the Regenerate Your World newsletter, where I integrate the dimensions of well-being into the stories of daily life.

This week, I am excited to share insights from my recent trip to the Pacific Northwest, a journey that enriched our mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being.

My husband and I love to travel together, and the Pacific Northwest is one of our favorite places to visit. After spending the last seven months preparing to move to a new city, buying a house, selling a house, moving, and unpacking, we decided to celebrate getting through this time with a much-needed vacation.

Our Adventure in the Pacific Northwest

Arrival in Portland and Mount St. Helens
Our adventure began with an early departure from the airport, arriving in Portland, Oregon, by late morning. I love to fly, and the flight set the tone for the trip. After a quick meal, we hit the road and headed straight to Mount St. Helens. Even though I have been to Washington many times, I have never hiked Mount St. Helens. We hiked through various terrains, swamps, rocks, and grass. This hike reminded us how important it is to stay strong and determined, both in our physical activities and personal growth. The last seven months have felt like climbing a mountain, and now we can celebrate reaching the summit and ponder what summit is next.

Exploring Tumwater and Olympic National Park
The next day, we explored Tumwater, Washington, and kept our adventure going with a boat ride in Olympic National Park. Boating through the clear waters, we were surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. This peaceful yet energizing activity helped us appreciate the rhythm of nature, inspiring us to find the same sense of rhythm in our own lives.

Hoh Rain Forest and Hurricane Ridge

Next, we ventured into the Hoh Rain Forest, where the lush greenery and tranquility made us feel deeply connected to the earth. There were so many times I stood at the base of a 300-foot tree in awe of its beauty. I tried to imagine what life was like on Earth when the trees were seedlings over 1200 years ago. Our next stop brought us to Hurricane Ridge. Hiking up Hurricane Ridge, we experienced breathtaking views that made the challenging trail worthwhile. These experiences once again reminded us of the importance of perseverance and strength in our journey.

Memorable Dining and Simple Pleasures
During our trip, we often ate protein bars and jerky for most meals since we were often many miles from any restaurant. However, we did have one memorable dinner at a wonderful waterside restaurant in Olympia, where we had fresh salmon and local veggies while watching the sunset over the water. We enjoyed the view of the port and even spotted a seal swimming while we dined!

Relaxation in Forks and Tumwater
We then headed to Forks, Washington, and stayed at the Dew Drop Inn. The small town’s rustic charm made us slow down and enjoy the simple things in life.

Me standing at the base of an over 200 foot tall Cedar tree!

Returning Home with Renewed Purpose
When we traveled back to Portland on July 4th for our flight home to MSP, we took back more than just souvenirs. We left with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. The trip ended with us reflecting on how travel, new experiences, and good food can enrich our lives. After facing many challenges this year personal and professional this trip was a wonderful reminder of all the wonders the world has to offer and how good it can be to experience them.

Embracing Change and Celebrating Milestones
Reflecting on our journey, I realize how much we learned about embracing change and celebrating milestones. Moving to a new city and settling into a new home has had its challenges and it taught us resilience and adaptability. Our trip was a celebration of these achievements and a reminder that every challenge is an opportunity for growth.

Creating Harmony
The harmony we found in nature during our trip is something we strive to incorporate into our daily lives. Whether it's through a walk in the park, a moment of meditation, or simply enjoying a meal together, finding harmony is key to our well-being.

Reflection Questions
1. What recent challenge have you faced that felt like climbing a mountain? How did you overcome it, and what did you learn from the experience?

2. How do you find harmony in your daily life? Are there activities or practices that help you stay grounded and centered?

3. Think about a recent trip or new experience. What insights or lessons did you bring back with you that have enriched your personal growth or leadership?

4. In what ways can you celebrate milestones and achievements in your life, both big and small?

I hope these stories and reflections inspire you to embrace new adventures, find harmony, and celebrate your own milestones no matter how seemingly big or small they are.

Take Care, Dear Reader,

Julie

The Green Mountains

By James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)

YE mountains, that far off lift up your heads,

Seen dimly through their canopies of blue,

The shade of my unrestful spirit sheds

Distance-created beauty over you;

I am not well content with this far view;

How may I know what foot of loved one treads

Your rocks moss-grown and sun-dried torrent beds?

We should love all things better, if we knew

What claims the meanest have upon our hearts;

Perchance even now some eye, that would be bright

To meet my own, looks on your mist-robed forms;

Perchance your grandeur a deep joy imparts

To souls that have encircled mine with light,—

O brother-heart, with thee my spirit warms!

What Makes A Home?

The moving truck at our house in Northfield. It was an interesting feeling seeing our "home" in boxes. It led to the question, "What makes a home?".

Dear Empowered Reader,

Before diving into the newsletter I couldn't wait to share something exciting with you, I am planning a three-hour Virtual Mountain 10 workshop!

I would like to invite you on an extraordinary journey of growth and possibility by joining an upcoming Virtual Mountain 10 Workshop, the date will be dependent on your response via the waitlist form.

To complete the waitlist form please click HERE.  This is not a registration form by completing the form I can send you information when a workshop becomes available that fits your schedule.

What is the Mountain 10 Workshop?

In this three-hour workshop, we'll help you tap into your inner wisdom to make meaningful changes in your life. We'll use the Mountain 10 process, a new and effective method for deep self-reflection.

This process is built on the belief that you already have the answers to questions about your life's direction, purpose, and calling.

The process guides you through four stages of exploration, pausing at key points to reflect on important awareness questions, letting go, vision, and realization. As you go through these stages, you'll take a closer look at your feelings, thoughts, and mental images.

You'll identify what you need to let go of to pursue what you truly want. We'll also create space for you to envision a new future and think about the practical steps needed to achieve it.

Throughout the workshop, we'll deepen our understanding in small, supportive groups. You'll use journaling and guided reflection to help you on your journey.

Now on to the main topic of the newsletter, "What Makes A Home?".

As we navigate through the various chapters of our lives, the concept of "home" often becomes a central theme. This month, I find myself reflecting deeply on what truly makes a home as my husband and I embark on a significant change - purchasing a house and moving to a new city, Northfield, MN.

My journey with my husband, from Duluth to Northfield is filled with mixed emotions. On one hand, we are drawn closer to family, particularly my father-in-law who is in hospice care.

On the other hand, we must say goodbye to the place we've called home for the past 13 years, leaving behind the friends and places we love. (to read my love letter to Duluth click HERE) It's an experience, I am grateful for there is also a sense of anticipation for the new adventures that await us in Northfield.

In this transition, I've come to realize that while the physical space of a home holds significance, it's the things you can't see - the love, warmth, and shared experiences - that truly make it feel like home. As we settled into our new home in Northfield, I was reminded that home isn't just a place on a map; it's a feeling deeply rooted within us, shaped by the connections we nurture and the memories we hold dear.

This transition has led me to think about:

What makes a home?

How do we define that sense of belonging and comfort?

And how can we navigate the process of establishing ourselves in a new environment while honoring the memories of our old home?

It's a journey that requires us to embrace change with resilience and grace, to recognize that while goodbyes may be bittersweet, they pave the way for new beginnings.

As my husband and I embark on this new chapter, I'm filled with a sense of optimism and curiosity, eager to discover how Northfield will weave itself into the fabric of our lives and become our new home.

Together, dear reader, let's explore these questions and embrace the transformative power of transition, knowing that with each step forward, we're one step closer to finding our place in the world.

Reflection Questions:

What emotions come to mind when you think about your concept of "home"?

How have these emotions evolved?

How do you navigate the process of letting go of the familiar to embrace the new?

What strategies or coping mechanisms have you found helpful in times of transition?

What practices or rituals help you create a sense of home in unfamiliar surroundings?

How do you cultivate a feeling of belonging in new environments?

Together, we can navigate the transitions of life and emerge stronger than ever before.

Take Care, Dear Reader

Home Is Where the Heart Is

By: Mrs. Mary Lambert1933 (Cleveland)

Home is where the heart is, that's where we should be.Home is where the heart is, for all the world to see.
Families together, friends are welcome too.
Home is where the heart is, for me and yes for you.
They'll be times there will be laughter, and times there will be tears.  But when we're altogether, we'll conquer all our fears.
Home is where the heart is, that's where we should be.Home is where the heart is, for you and yes for me.
Let us stand together, let's all get along. We can make it happen, we'll show them we are strong.  We'll show them we belong.
Home is where the heart is!

Thank you to Jessica Osborn for hosting me on your podcast in April. Below is the episode description.

Feeling the burden of non-stop hustle?
We've all been there—caught in the to-dos, trying to keep the burnout at bay while chasing success the way we've been told you have to - working longer and harder than anyone else.
Well, what if you DON'T have to do it that way?For every story of hard work and grind ... there's another story of reaching success by working LESS!

Why do we seem to tune into the ones that tell you success is the result of sleeping very little and spending all your time chasing goals?
Even if you take a moment to think about this - it makes no sense at all! You already know you're much more productive when you're energized and highly focused.
That means your brains need sleep, rest and space. Short bursts of work where you can focus on the important things.
So... it's time to talk boundaries, joy, and finding your stride in the rush of work-life challenges.

- The absolute value of self-awareness in writing your own story of personal and professional triumph.
- How can setting boundaries revolutionize the way you work, live, and maintain a sense of self?
